Peer Support system K-VOWRC uses Peer support system:-
- To mobilize the sex workers.
The peer system helps the organization to reach the sex workers at their place of work (clubs & bars), in their homes and also in the streets. It helps to identifies those involved in sex work hence helping those willing to exit sex trade.
- To take care of HIV and Aids’s patients
Peer system helps the organization to get information on those sick in their houses, hospital beds hence the organization through the peer system provides the necessary help e.g. foods, nutrition supplement and home based care etc.
- To micro-lend Micro-lending is also done through peer system.
Before a member is funded she must belong in a small group that she is answerable too. This helps the organization to follow-up on matters regarding the small businesses and funding.
HIV/AIDs has left us with many orphans whom we give basic needs, education etc. The orphans are left to us by the women sex workers who die leaving their children behind. We support the children through the peers systems. The women having gone through memory book training they are able to identify a person who wills to take care of the children after they die. This has been very successful.
